About Mase

I have been a studio artist for over 40 years. My work has been widely exhibited nationally and is in private and corporate collections in the U.S., Canada and abroad.

My initial attraction to painting is to the physicality of paint itself--the way it plays on the surface of the substrate, the way it interacts and redefines itself. Early on, I focused on painting the figure. Those many nostalgic paintings found kindred spirits but eventually I turned my attention to non-objective and abstracted subjects and to equine themes. The horse paintings have most clearly defined my career.

In the abstracted work, color fields are layered then organized, depending on one another for depth and variation in the finished piece. And for what I hope conveys to the viewer an intended response free from literal interpretation.
